Saving the Coogan Farm
have big news to share with you. 45 total acres of intact historical landscape have just been saved containing 370 years of American
history. 4 early successional habitats supporting more than 10 species listed by the USFWS as high conservation priority will be
protected along with 2 crucial watersheds. The efforts of more than 60 volunteers and contributions from over 600 donors helped us reach
this critical milestone of closing on the Coogan Farm. The campaign continues thru the end of the year to raise the rest of the funds
necessary to transform the property for public use.

The Coogan Farm in Mystic is an historic 34-acre parcel of magnificent land that for centuries has been mostly unaltered by the
amenities of modern life. It is the last parcel of undeveloped farmland between downtown Mystic, Mystic Seaport and Mystic
Aquarium- where the country meets the coast. The Campaign to Save Coogan Farm is an effort by Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center
(DPNC), the Trust for Public Land (TPL) and the community at large to preserve the landscape and legacy for future generations to enjoy
educational and recreational opportunities.
Also planned in the Campaign to Save Coogan Farm is the expansion and enhancement of existing trails to link the Mystic River area to
the Nature Center and a community-wide trail system open to the public, free of charge. The Coogan Farm has tremendous community
value. We invite you to learn more about what it has to offer and support this crucial campaign that will protect natural and
historical resources vital to our community’s continued growth and identity.

Beginning with the historic Greenmanville Trail, visitors will stroll or bike through the Farm to the Mystic
Seaport, Aquarium, Denison Homestead and the Nature Center. The well planned network of trails will allow visitors to enjoy sweeping
vistas, picnic breaks or simple relaxation after a busy day. The Farm will enhance visitors’ experiences in the Mystic area and
entice them to stay longer and revisit.
The walking and biking trails at Coogan Farm will encourage healthy lifestyles by linking a 300-acre
greenway with area attractions, stores, schools, hotels and neighborhoods. Produce grown in the community garden and
harvest-to-table activities will promote good nutrition and healthful eating habits.
As a centrally accessible gathering place and events venue, the Farm will engender public pride in its
history as a birthplace of the American spirit. And, a large community giving garden will build civic-mindedness on a new scale.
