DPNC Program Cancellation Policy: Pre-registration allows the Nature Center to secure staffing and materials for programs, so that we may best serve you. We require pre-registration and pre-payment for most programs in order to reserve a space. If DPNC cancels a program, you will receive a full refund. If you withdraw from a program more than 4 days in advance, you will receive a refund less a 25% administrative fee. Withdrawals within 4 days of a program are not refundable. Preregistration for all programs is always recommended. Walk-ins should be prepared to pay by check or with exact change for programs at Coogan Farm, off-site, or after hours, and may be turned away if program is full.

The curriculum includes topics such as reptiles, weather, Native American life, astronomy, water, amphibians, soil, and pollination. Activities related to the curriculum include fire building, fishing, campfire cooking, birding, animal tracking, foraging, and stream study. All Nature Center programs are based on scientific principles. Home school classes are run as a drop-off program, however parents are welcome to stay at any point.
Little Explorers (ages 4-6): A program designed with our youngest learners in mind, we will explore natural themes with creative play, songs, storytime, and crafts. We’ll spend time outside when the weather is nice, using our senses to discover the plants and animals that live right around the nature center. We provide a snack. Maximum 10 students.
Scientists (ages 7-9): It’s a wide world out there, and we are going to learn as much as we can about it! Students will be guided through the scientific process, with a new topic of inquiry each session. Create hypotheses, conduct experiments, and get ready to make some awesome discoveries! We’ll explore the fields, forests and wetlands to gain inspiration for our experiments, letting our natural curiosities guide the way. (Please provide a snack for your child).
Eco Engineers (ages 10+): Our oldest home school students will enjoy this program designed specifically with their interests in mind. Learn the science behind why plants and animals behave the way they do. Make tools out of natural materials, create a dam in the stream and study the effect it has on the surrounding ecosystem, and conduct other experiments that focus on the natural world and problem solving for the future. Fun, recreational activities include hiking, orienteering with a map and compass, team building games, and more! (Please provide a snack for your child).

Visit dpnc.org/homeschool/ for the daily themes. DPNC family membership required. Pre-registration strongly encouraged. Meet at DPNC.
