Summer Nature Camp

For decades, DPNC has provided the area’s best Summer Nature Camp. Our campers spend their days hiking, exploring, and learning about our woods, meadows, streams and beaches. We believe that a strong environmental ethic can best develop in children who learn to love being outdoors. Our camp builds the foundation for a lifetime of love and respect for the environment. And it’s fun!

Our camps for ages 3 to 15 all work in concert with our mission: To inspire an understanding of the natural world and ourselves as a part of it – past, present and future. Our camps are guaranteed to provide your child with outdoor fun, adventure, games, new skills and relationships, confidence building, education, natural history and exposure to local natural habitats! To enroll, please look at the camp offerings and register either online or in person at the Nature Center.  Any questions, please email our Camp Director, Pauline Gaucher at

Classic Camp Our classic Nature Camp provides a well-rounded experience for campers of every age. Children have the opportunity to learn about a wide variety of ecosystems and habitats such as ponds, streams, meadows and forests, in addition to area beaches and marshes for camps that go on field trips.  Animal encounters are a favorite as we introduce our resident frogs, turtles, snakes, rabbits and birds of prey throughout the week.  Children make friends and practice social skills through fun games, test their physical motor skills by climbing on our favorite rocks and boulders, and express themselves creatively through various art projects and activities. Nature camp brings children back to basics and nurtures connections to the natural world.

Specialty Camp
Looking for something a little extra?Specialty camps provide an added twist to the classic camp experience.  We’ve included seasonal favorites and brand new themes this year. Some specialty camps include overnights, special field trips and unique topics and activities such as yoga, weaving and art!

Shared Camps Get the best of both worlds! Don’t forget to check out the camps we’re offering in collaboration with the Mystic Seaport, New England Science and Sailing (NESS) and the Mystic Museum of Art.  Look for  Farm & Sea, Earth, Water & Skies, Earth To Stars, One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, You Fish and Nature Kingdoms.  Partner camps give kids a chance to add variety to the camp experience!

Pre-and After-Hours Need more than a typical camp day to accommodate your work schedule?  We offer pre-camp(8:15-9am) and post-camp(4-5:30pm) hours every day so that your children can have extended fun!  (**please note that with some shared camp days, pre- and after camp are not offered or limited to days spent @ DPNC)

We offer a variety of camps all summer long.

Please note:  On-line registration will close the Thursday before each camp is to start.  Additional registrations will be handled in person or you may call 860-536-1216 @ ext. 21204.
