Get ready for the afternoon solar eclipse by learning about the planets, stars and moons that make up our solar system. We’ll hear stories about the stars and create a constellation craft to take home. Pre-registration is required! Meets at DPNC. Ages 6-10

Solar Eclipse Family Adventure
Monday, April 8 – 2-3:30 pm.
A partial solar eclipse is coming to Connecticut on Monday, April 8! Join us for this historic event as we observe and learn about the solar eclipse. After a quick lesson about how eclipses work, we will create an eclipse project and spend time observing the eclipse from multiple spots at DPNC. All participants will receive a pair of solar eclipse glasses for safety.. Meets at DPNC. Pre-registration is required and children must be accompanied by an adult. Families with children 6 and up.
Muffin Making at Coogan Kitchen
Tuesday April 9, 10 am-12 pm.
Time to make the muffins! Have fun at the Coogan Farm kitchen as we make different types of muffins. We’ll experiment with different fillings and flavors, then have a taste test to see which we like best! While our muffins are baking, we’ll explore the trails at Coogan, so come ready for cooking and hiking!

Did you know turtle shells are made up of more than 50 bones, and the shell is actually part of their skeletons? Learn about DPNC’s live painted, box and snapping turtles and their unique adaptations. Create a mosaic turtle shell and spend time by the pond searching for resident turtles.

Is your family a whiz at nature trivia? Test your knowledge at our Family Nature Trivia night. Teams of up to six people will compete to win incredible nature prizes, including a private animal encounter! We’ll provide pizza and drinks to eat as you play at DPNC.

REGISTERPoint to Point Family Hike to Bear Cave
Thursday, April 11, 9 am-3 pm.
Ready for a vacation week hiking adventure? If you can hike six miles,we want you for a point to point hiking expedition along the scenic Narragansett Trail in North Stonington. We’ll explore High Ledges and Bear Cave as we go. Bring lunch and a water bottle, and be prepared for hiking over rough and uneven terrain. Meet us at Wyassup Lake Boat Launch. At the end of the hike our waiting vans will transport you back to your cars at the boat launch. Hike is for families with children who can successfully hike six miles. Pre-registration is required.

Beavers are master engineers! Learn about their awesome skills and adaptations, then build like a beaver and test our own beaver dams and lodge. We’ll finish with an exploration of Pequotsepos Brook.

Join us the second Saturday of every month as we adventure into nature! This month is all about eggs. We’ll meet turtles, snakes, and birds and learn all about the different types of eggs that animals lay! Meets at DPNC. Ages 6-10
