The Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center’s Native Butterfly House is being prepped for a new season of butterflies. Two of our educators, Amy Stich and Suzanne Burns, have been hard at work clearing the overgrowth and planting new plants to support the butterflies.

First opened in 2010, the Native Butterfly House will be home to more than 100 butterflies within the next few weeks. Stay tuned to our Facebook page and website for details.

Over the winter, the house was home to a merlin that was brought to us with an injured shoulder. Once the bird was healed enough to try and fly, it spent two months in the butterfly house gaining strength before we released it in April.

The Butterfly House is open during Nature Center regular hours, which are 9 a.m., to 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m., to 4 p.m., Sunday. It is included in the admission price, $8 for adults and $5 for children and seniors.
