On Thursday at the Coogan Farm Nature and Heritage Center, we hosted all the politicians and dignitaries for the ribbon cutting to officially open our new 45-acre preserve at 162 Greenmanville Avenue in Mystic. There were speeches and photo opps and some delicious mini quiches from Gourmet Galley. It was wonderful.
On Friday we hosted a beautiful thank you reception for the major financial donors to the project, which raised $4.1 million for the purchase of the farm last year. The delicious buffet was catered by local restaurateur Jon Kodama and music was provided by Mystic Horns and there were lots of wonderful thank you speeches made. It was wonderful.
On Saturday, Coogan hosted the first of what we hope will be many Community Picnics, and the meadows and cedar forest were filled with the shouts of exploring children, the laughter of the adults trying to track them down, and the sweet sounds of the Cajun band Big Mamou. Mystic Paper Beasts frolicked along with a juggler on stilts, and owls were constructed out of brown paper bags and glue. It was wonderful.
