The Denison Pequotsepos/Coogan Farm Nature & Heritage Center and the Connecticut Songwriters Association are co-hosting a family concert of environmentally-themed music, featuring Top 10 winners from the national Environmental Songwriting Contest.

The concert is Saturday September 10, 3-5pm at Coogan Farm, 162 Greenmanville Ave., Mystic.

Grand Prize Winner Jane Fallon from Brookline, N.H. will perform, along with Katie Oates of Charlotte, N.C., David Morris of Gaithersburg, MD, Jan Gillies of Baker, W.V., Becky Bridges of Torrington, CT, Tom Hazuka of Berlin, CT, Mandy Sullivan of Preston, CT, and other guests.

The event is hosted by Grammy-winner and former CT state Troubador Bill Pere, and Nashville Recording artist Kay Pere, of Mystic, both of whom will also perform.

The songs from all these accomplished singer-songwriters cover topics such as fracking, strip mining, eminent domain, recycling, pollution, green energy, etc. Grand-Prize Winner Jane Fallon has been a finalist in dozens of national song competition and her environmentally-themed CD “Tangled in a Tree” received a “CD of the Year” nomination from Indie Magazine (more at www.janefallon.com).

The concert will be outdoors, so bring a picnic blanket and chairs. In the event of rain, the concert will move indoors.

The event is open to the public. Tickets in advance are $8 adults, $6 kids under 12, available online at www.ctsongs.com. Tickets at the door are $10 adults, $8 kids under 12. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Nature Center.
