The Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center will host its first-ever Butterfly Extravaganza from 2 to 4:30 p.m., Saturday June 27 at the Nature Center, 109 Pequotsepos Road, Mystic.

Activities include a Butterfly Parade, and the release of live butterflies, as well as the official opening of the Native Butterfly and Moth House. The house was recently renovated by a volunteer work crew from Aquarion Water Co. in Mystic.

Food will be provided by Zest Fresh Pastry and there will be face painting, crafts, live music, a scavenger hunt and a wild butterfly walk. Educational talks on the butterfly life cycle and how to create a butterfly-friendly garden will be given.

Tickets are $25 for adults and $18 for children 13 and under (children under 2 are free, but that does not include a butterfly for release).  Patron tickets are: $75 for Swallowtail (includes 2 tickets plus a special edition DPNC butterfly tote bag) and $150 for Monarch (includes 4 tickets plus a special edition DPNC butterfly tote bag). Each ticket holder will receive a live butterfly for release in the meadow.

Advanced registration is required by June 15, there are no walk-ins for this event. Rain or shine.
