Whether it’s a visit with our Woodland Santa or a chance to make a beautiful natural holiday decoration for your home, the Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center has a wide array of holiday-themed programs for the adults and children in December.

Happy Holiday Evergreens

Create a beautiful wreath, kissing ball or centerpiece for your home.  We’ll have an assortment of evergreen boughs, branches, berries, vines, cones and other materials available. Different techniques and styles of making your holiday decorations will be demonstrated. 100% recycled wreaths can be made to attract birds or to fill your home with the scent of pine for the holiday season. This is also a great way to learn to ID different evergreen plants.

Deck Your Halls

Saturday, Dec. 6
1-3 p.m.
Families

Create garland, edible pine cones and other delicious treats just for the birds and wildlife in your yard.  We’ll have the supplies for you and your family to make your outdoor Christmas tree so very lovely!  NOTE: We do use nuts for this program. This is a drop-in program, so stay for as little or as long as you wish.

Pancake Breakfast with Woodland Santa

Saturday, Dec. 13
8-10 a.m.

Enjoy a winter walk in the woods and a hearty pancake breakfast at the Nature Center that includes local hickory syrup, steaming beverages and live music.  Woodland Santa will be there to delight the children, discuss his travels, and decide who has been naughty or nice.

This very popular event sells out quickly, so register early!

Winter Solstice Luminaria Walk

All ages

Explore the winter beauty of our trails lit by the soft glow of luminarias and guided by our staff.  Walks depart at 7pm, 7:30pm, and 8pm.  The grounds of the Nature Center will also be lit.  A roaring campfire will warm noses and toes, and we will offer hot beverages to make the celebratory solstice evening complete.

New Year’s Day Hike

Begin the New Year enjoying a hike outdoors with your family and friends. We will explore the Nature Center trails, keeping our eyes open for signs of winter wildlife. After our hike, warm up with hot chocolate by the campfire.
