The end of the school year means a great opportunity to get outside and stretch your legs! But your brain shouldn’t go to sleep just because it’s summertime. That’s why the Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center and The Day are partnering in the first-ever Outdoor Nature Sca-venture!

This family-friendly scavenger hunt/puzzle contest is a challenging and fun way to explore some local landmarks and learn about the environment in southeastern Connecticut! Beginning June 20, a new clue will be published in The Day each day.  Teams will record their answers on the official Outdoor Nature Sca-venture entry form. When the contest ends July 1, submit your fully and correctly completed form and be entered to win a Super Summer Prize package!

“The Sca-venture is a great way for people to learn about the local area,” said DPNC Education Director Molly Check. “The clues provide suggestions for local, historical hotspots that you may not visit otherwise, and the nature trivia add a fun, educational twist that everyone can enjoy.”

“At The Day, we value our community partners; and we especially value being able to support community initiatives,” said Michael Moses, director of marketing at The Day.  “When we were approached about co-sponsoring the Outdoor Nature Sca-venture it seemed like a natural; it’s unique, it’s focused on getting our residents out into the community to explore, learn, and enrich their lives, and  we have always enjoyed working with Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center in the past.  We are excited to kick off the Outdoor Nature Sca-venture and encourage all of our readers participate and explore all that southeastern Connecticut has to offer.”

Additional partners in the Sca-venture are the Mashantucket Pequot Museum and Research Center and the Florence Griswold Museum. Participants in the Sca-venture will receive free admission to the Florence Griswold Museum in order to solve a clue (see complete contest rules for details) and entry to the Gathering Space area of the Mashantucket Museum to solve a clue there.

“Thank you to the Florence Griswold and the Mashantucket Pequot Museum for joining us in the inaugural Sca-venture,” said Maggie Jones, executive director of the Nature Center. “We think this is a wonderful activity that will get local families out and about to learn more our local habitats and our local museums. Our region has so much to celebrate historically, culturally and environmentally.”

Participants are encouraged to post on social media as they work their way through the Sca-venture! Use hashtag #scaventure and tag The Day and the Nature Center in your posts on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
